Guidelines for posters

Authors of good practices accepted for poster presentation will have a chance to present the poster to interested attendees during two special poster sessions at the 5th Barcelona Conference on Higher Education: Higher Education's Commitment to Sustainability: from Understanding to Action. 

The poster sessions aim to open a central space for participation at the Conference, so that valuable ideas of selecetd good practices can be conveniently shared and discussed.

Poster sessions are scheduled at prime times and will remain available (without presenters) during all the Conference, enabling attendees to view them at their convenience. 

Size Poster Paper

  •  "A1" page size: 594 x 841 mm (23 x 33 inches)
  • Portrait-style (vertical)

Language Poster Paper

  •  English

Poster PDF File Submissions 

  • All posters must be send in a PDF file before 20 september 2010 to secretariatguni2010@manners.es with the subject line reading "GUNI Conference Poster Submission"
  • Authors of the poster are also asked to send a digital photograph of them. 

Poster Set up and Removal 

  • Posters must be delivered to the Conference's rganising team on Tuesday afternoon, 23 November (between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.) at the Conference venue. 
  • Remove will be on Thursday 25 by 6 p.m.

General Design Considerations 

  • The poster should contain the title, the names of all authors and your comlete address, including e-mail and (if applicable) a web address.
  • All body text should be the same size and style of the font.
  • Keep body text left-aligned only (do not justify
  • Leave "breathing space" around the text. Don't overcrwd the poster.
  • Columns should not vary in width.
  • Use pictures, graphs, and tables instead of text where possible - try for 50% graphics.
  • Leave at least 2cm between your poster's content and the edge of the page.
  • Short and meaningful titles in large type, using upper and lower case, not all capitals.
  • Concise content, avoiding information overload.
  • Black or dark text on a white or light colour background.
  • Although the poster may have the standard subdivisions (Introduction, Aims, Methods, Results, Conclusions), a a good poster is one that transmits its message quickly. 

 Poster Sessions

 There will be two Poster Sessions during the Conference:

  • Wednesday 24 November from 14.30 to 15.30 
  • Thursday 25 November from 14.30 to 15.30


  • Poster Sessions run for 1 hour in the afternoon of Wednesday 24 November and Thursday 25 November.
  • Authors should plan on arriving 5 minutes before the poster session.
  • At a minimum, one poster author should be present to provide details and answer questions to those assembled around the poster.
  • Authors are responsible for removing all material at the end of the Conference (Thursday 25 November 2010).
  • Posters are attached to the display boards with thumbtacks provided by Conference's organising team.
  • It is useful to attach two envelopes to your presentation: one envelope to collect the comments or questions of participants and another in which to place your own business cards. You may also reproduce your poster in A4 format to distribute to the Conference participants.
  • All contributions are published in the On-line Poster Gallery and in the Conference Proceeding under terms of Creactive Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike Licence.
